There are three main types of breast lift surgery, and they are defined by the kinds of incisions that are made on the breasts.
Does that make one type of surgery better than another? Is one surgery preferable to another depending on what the patient wants done? Here are the three most common types of breast lift procedures.
1. Circumareolar Lift
This is also known as a peri areolar lift and is one of the procedures that might be available to you when getting a breast lift turkey. It goes by other names such as the donut lift and the Benelli lift. It is characterized by its minimal incision technique, where a single circular incision is made around the outer perimeter of each areola on the breast.
One of the advantages of this surgical approach is the limited scarring, as the incision is discreetly located at the edge of the areola, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the surrounding skin.
This procedure enables the lifting of the nipple and areola while also allowing for the removal of excess skin. One of the downsides is that the removal of a donut-shaped section of skin around the areola may result in puckering at the closure site.
2. Vertical Breast Lift
This is also known as the lollipop breast lift, mostly because of the “lollipop” shape of the skin that is removed. It involves the excision of skin surrounding the nipple as well as the area directly beneath the areola.
While this procedure results in a greater number of scars on the breast, it allows for the removal of a larger amount of skin, contributing to a more elevated and youthful breast appearance.
Additionally, it enables the reduction of excess skin on the sides of the breasts, enhancing their overall aesthetic appeal.
3. Inverted-T Breast Lift Technique
This is also known as the anchor lift. It involves three incisions that are made around the breast: one around the areola as in the donut lift, one that runs up and down from the bottom edge of the areola to the bottom of the breast, and one that runs along the natural breast crease (also known as the inframammary fold).
These incisions enable the surgeon to excise surplus skin of the breasts, especially if patients are experiencing considerable sagging. One of the main disadvantages of this kind of procedure is that there are multiple scars.
Do All Breast Lift Surgeries Leave Scars?
All breast lift procedures do leave scars; some are just more noticeable than others. The kind of procedure you want performed will also depend on how much sagging there is in the breast: the doughnut lift is for mild sagging; the lollipop lift is for moderate sagging; the anchor lift corrects severe sagging.
So the more tissue that needs to be removed, the more intensive the procedure and the more scarring that will be present.
