Renowned British fabric and wallpaper house, GP & J Baker, in collaboration with visionary designer Kit Kemp, has unveiled an exciting new collection.
This partnership marks the debut of a contemporary ensemble that seamlessly merges Kit’s eclectic, colourful style with GP & J Baker’s design prowess and rich heritage.
A Fusion of Styles: The Collection Unveiled
The ‘GP & J Baker x Kit Kemp’ collection presents an array of captivating prints, wallpapers, artisanal stripes, embroideries, and stunning plain linen. Designers are offered the opportunity to infuse their projects with individuality, courtesy of this collaboration’s distinctive style.
The collection’s standout pieces include the revival of the classic ‘Knight’s Tale’, an original GP & J Baker design dating back to the late 1920s. Inspired by mid-16th-century crewel work, this archival gem portrays a romantic pastoral scene featuring leaping deer in a forest glade.
Kit Kemp breathes new life into this timeless design, offering it in six contemporary colourways as both fabric and wallpaper, thus adding a modern twist to its classic allure.
Whimsical Masterpieces and Iconic Designs
Another highlight is ‘Robina’s Dinner Party’, a whimsical masterpiece celebrating ceramicist Robina Jack’s hand-painted folkloric plates. The collection also features ‘Tall Trees’, an iconic design by Kit Kemp originally painted by Melissa White, now available in several captivating colourways.
‘Potato Print’ pays homage to pop artist Joe Tilson, encapsulating Kit’s admiration for his rebellious approach to printmaking. The fabric lineup also includes three exquisite embroideries: ‘Backdrop’, ‘Spin-Off’, and ‘Ring Road’, each showcasing unique textures and vibrant colours.
Artisanal Stripes and Plain Linens
The ‘GP & J Baker x Kit Kemp Stripes’ collection offers a range of weaves meticulously crafted to complement the printed fabrics, plain linens, and decorative wallpapers.
Highlights include ‘Bunty’, a fabulously crafted striped weave available in five unexpected yet complementary colourways. ‘Runaway’ and ‘Wild One’ inject movement and joy with exuberant woven stripes, while ‘Tight Rope’ offers a versatile narrow woven stripe suitable for upholstery.
Completing the comprehensive collection are the ‘GP & J Baker x Kit Kemp Plain Linens’, providing a perfect anchor for the more decorative elements. Suitable for curtains, walling, and upholstery, these plain linens offer a versatile backdrop for interior designs.
A Fresh Perspective on Interior Design
Ann Grafton, Managing and Creative Director at GP & J Baker, shares her excitement about the collaboration, stating, ‘This collection brings together the best of both worlds – Kit’s unique, contemporary flair and GP & J Baker’s renowned creative skills.
