Run a Hazard Assessment Before Every Rooftop Visit
A pre-task hazard assessment does not have to be a complex, time-intensive procedure. A concise, digital check-off list that technicians complete on their phones before they even step onto the roof is quick and easy to implement and ensures you capture all the necessary info that a hasty visual check may not pick up.
The checklist should cover current weather conditions, surface moisture, wind speed, confirmed functionality of the access hatch, and whether fall protection equipment has been inspected that day. Standardizing this through documented SOPs means it happens every time, not just when a supervisor is watching. It also creates a record – which matters if a near-miss or incident ever requires review.

Build Safety Hardware into the Access Point, Not Around It
