Banyan Tree Samui has won the Global Spa Awards 2026 title for “Best Spa Resort – Thailand.” The UK-based Luxury Spa Edit made the announcement after evaluating resorts through expert panels and over 85,000 public votes.
Award Recognition Process
The determination involved leading spa authorities, travel journalists, and sustainability specialists. Spa & Gallery Manager Naphasawan Badklang credits the resort’s spa team for the win. “We are honored to win this award. Much of the credit goes to each member of the spa team, most of whom came through rigorous training at the Banyan Spa & Wellbeing Academy in Phuket,” she stated.
Each practitioner completes comprehensive training at Banyan Tree’s dedicated academy in Phuket. This ensures consistency across all treatments.
The Eight Pillars Philosophy
The resort operates under Banyan Tree’s “Wellbeing Sanctuary” programme, built on eight foundational elements: Rest, Nourishment, Connection, Movement, Mindfulness, Growth, Groundedness, and Practice. Ms Naphasawan highlighted this framework during the award announcement.
The programme moves beyond conventional spa treatments. It addresses physical and spiritual renewal through comprehensive wellness approaches, much like The Dorchester Spa’s innovative wellness residency programme.
The Rainforest Hydrotherapy Experience
The Rainforest facility anchors the resort’s hydrotherapy offerings. This installation guides guests through sequences of water jets, saunas, steam rooms, ice fountains, and therapeutic whirlpools. Each element targets specific therapeutic benefits within the wellness journey.
Lisa Brown, Founder and CEO of The Luxury Spa Edit, visited the property personally. “Along with several members of our expert panel, I have been fortunate enough to visit Banyan Tree Samui personally. The Banyan Tree brand has long been renowned for its eco-friendly, world-class luxury spa resorts and eight pillars of wellness philosophy, but this resort has something a little magical.”
Banyan Tree Spa 2.0 Launch
The award arrives alongside the rollout of Banyan Tree Spa 2.0. This concept combines traditional Asian practices with contemporary wellness understanding. The experience begins with personalised consultation, followed by bespoke herbal massage oil blending tailored to individual wellness focus areas.
Signature ritual elements include the Palm Touch Ritual, Sound Healing Ritual with vibrational therapy, and Breathwork Ritual focused on conscious breathing techniques. Koshi chimes and Tingsha Tibetan bells mark ceremonial beginnings and conclusions of each treatment.
Each session concludes with foot cleansing using Himalayan salt, lemon powder, and selected herbs, accompanied by therapeutic teas.
Signature Treatment Portfolio
The Sense of Place – Sukhothai Heritage Massage incorporates fresh coconut, jasmine rice, turmeric, and tamarind. The Royal Banyan treatment fuses Eastern and Western massage methodologies to address muscle tension and circulation.
The Rainforest Indulgence combines hydrotherapy with massage therapy through rainwalk experiences, therapeutic salt scrubs, mineral mud baths, Swiss shower sequences, sauna sessions, ice fountain therapy, and vitality pool rituals. This comprehensive approach reflects today’s growing focus on holistic wellness and performance optimisation.
Expert Assessment
Lisa Brown’s evaluation extended beyond professional assessment to personal experience. “From the stunning hillside setting, which offers breathtaking views over Lamai Bay, to the spacious pool villas with personal hosts, the resort creates a cocooning haven of calm. Its extensive wellness offering is particularly impressive, and The Rainforest provides an exceptional hydrotherapy experience.”
She praised the personalised service: “I was especially impressed to have my own personal ‘Hydrotherapy Host’ guiding me through each stage of the circuit. The Spa therapists are all trained at the Banyan Spa & Wellbeing Academy, and I’ve always found them to be highly skilled. My Rainforest experience at Samui was one of the best holistic treatments I have ever had. Congratulations to the Samui team on a well-deserved win.”
