It can be difficult to keep track of the dizzying array of fashions showcased by celebrities, but the popularity of Milan fashion house Dolce & Gabbana among the glitterati stands out. Here’s a brief roundup of some famous faces recently spotted in Dolce & Gabbana creations.
Seen at Alta Moda
For her performance at the fall 2021 Alta Moda Show (which she opened with a rendition of “Nessum Dorma”) Jennifer Hudson wore a strapless gold ball gown with a sweetheart neckline, a dazzlingly embellished bodice, layered full skirts, and a dramatic train. Bold metallic fabrics were popular with other attending celebrities as well. Saweetie chose a black and silver ensemble that included a center-slit skirt accented with a glittering oversized bow and matching opera gloves and tam, while Ciara wore a beautifully clinging gown in persimmon that was burnished to a high shine. Mother and daughter Heidi and Leni Klum opted for glimmering silver in straight and simple silhouettes.
Not everyone at the Venice show embraced the metallic. Lady Kitty Spencer, perhaps recalling her recent wedding (for which she famously commissioned no fewer than five Dolce & Gabbana frocks), wore a short-sleeved scoop-neck dress in white lace, which she later swapped for a full-skirted gown in shades of sand and palest gold accented with hand-painted flowers and trimmed with more white lace. Several other celebrities incorporated flowers into their looks, from Jennifer Lopez’s floral-patterned pants, crop top, and cape to the 3D blossoms adorning Kourtney Kardashian’s striking sheer overwrap and Doja Kat’s luscious puffy gown.
Spotted on the Red Carpet
At the 2021 VMA Awards, Machine Gun Kelly was swathed from collarbones to ankles in a crimson sequined suit. He followed that appearance by showcasing three more Dolce & Gabbana suits as musical performer and catwalk star at Men’s Fashion Week in Milan. It’s impossible to say which get-up was the most striking: the blinged-out black and silver with oversized sleeves and matching gloves, the white silk whose more traditional lines were belied by the slender studs marching from shoulders to wrists, or the swirling multicolored pattern set off by magenta shoes. Megan Fox complimented her new fiance’s look with a black lace top and black lace-up leather pants with silver accents.
Venus Williams was spotted at the New York premiere of “The Batman” in a full-length Dolce & Gabbana frock; its minimalist lines combined with brilliant plum-hued sequins and a modest cut-out to create a sweet and slightly sporty effect. At the 2022 SAG Awards, she went for a more space-age look, with a stark white one-sided gown worn over a shiny silver bustier top. Ian Bohen also wore Dolce & Gabbana to the Awards; he chose a fitted black suit overlaid with a floral motif in shades of purple and pale azure. Helen Mirren arrived in a ballet pink dress with long sleeves and elaborate shoulder details; Hannah Waddingham’s gown cascaded from a pale gold fitted bodice to a deep bronze train.
At least six celebrities attended the Critics’ Choice Awards dressed in Dolce & Gabbana. Kristen Stewart wore a sparkling full-length slip dress complete with hairstyle and makeup chosen to enhance the 90s vibe, while Halle Berry picked a low-cut structured white top teamed with black trousers and jacket. Marlee Matlin was attired in a sapphire blue off-the-shoulder gown with sheer sleeves, while Julianne Nicholson wore a sleeveless halter-top gown in deep emerald. Aunjanue Ellis shone in a pink and silver gown with mermaid skirt and train. Mike Colter wore an elegant navy blue suit and Alan Kim sported brick-red.
From Venice to Milan to New York to Los Angeles, it’s clear that celebrities are continuing a decades-old love affair with the styles created by Dolce & Gabbana.
