Chelsea in Bloom Returns for 2023: Celebrating ‘Flowers on Film’

The streets of Chelsea are set to burst into vibrant bloom once again as the much-anticipated Chelsea in Bloom flower festival returns for 2023.

This world-class floral art show, which is also London’s largest free-to-attend flower festival, will immerse visitors in the mesmerizing theme of ‘Flowers on Film’. From the 22nd to the 28th of May 2023, Chelsea will be transformed into a captivating wonderland of floral creations that pay homage to the escapism and imagination of the silver screen.

Produced by Cadogan in association with the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Chelsea in Bloom extends the magic of the renowned Chelsea Flower Show beyond its grounds and into the heart of the local community.

Prepare to be captivated by an array of awe-inspiring central installations that will grace the area, including a life-size T-Rex and captivating movie memorabilia on Sloane Square.

The dazzling spectacle continues with a magnificent golden Oscar statuette and a ‘walk of fame’ featuring the iconic names of Chelsea on Pavilion Road.

As you explore the festival, be sure to wander through the immersive Wizard of Oz tunnel and encounter enchanting moments from beloved films like The Lion King and Mary Poppins.

Located at Sloane Square, the ‘Box Office’ Information Point will serve as your guide to the festival, providing essential information and the opportunity to book complimentary rickshaw rides and walking tours that have proven immensely popular in the past.

This year, 94 local businesses, including shops, pubs, hotels, and restaurants such as Anine Bing, Brunello Cucinelli, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Diptyque, Beaverbrook Town House, RIXO, and The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, will bring the theme of ‘Flowers on Film’ to life through stunning floral displays.

Each participant’s unique interpretation of the theme will add to the enchanting atmosphere, making your journey through Chelsea an unforgettable experience.

The captivating story of Chelsea’s connection to the cinematic world begins with William Friese-Green, the visionary considered the father of cinematography.

It was on the King’s Road in Chelsea where Friese-Green created the world’s first moving picture from his studio. Since then, this iconic neighborhood has been a haven for influential storytellers, including the legendary James Bond author, Ian Fleming; esteemed British Director Sir Carol Reed; PL Travers, the imaginative author of Mary Poppins; and Bram Stoker, the mastermind behind Dracula.

Moreover, Chelsea has provided the backdrop for numerous acclaimed films, such as ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ ‘Withnail and I,’ ‘A Good Year,’ and ‘Skyfall’.
