Spotlight on Reynier Llanes
Reynier Llanes’ artistic journey is a fusion of symbolism and expression, marked by a progression from realism to a distinctive style characterised by refined technique, impressionistic brushwork, and captivating storytelling.
His virtuosity in mastering diverse media seamlessly intertwines with his profound desire to weave narratives and construct entire worlds teeming with characters and metaphors.
Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba in 1985, Llanes commenced his artistic education at the city’s School of Art (Instructores de Arte), where he studied for four years under the tutelage of Juan Miguel Suárez, one of Cuba’s most renowned realist artists. In 2005, he relocated to Havana to further his studies and collaborate with fellow artists.
Subsequently, in 2007, Llanes immigrated to the United States, where he currently resides and works in Miami. His accolades include being named one of the 2012 “New Superstars of Southern Art” by Oxford America and receiving a “first purchase award” for a piece now part of the city of Charleston’s art collection.
Llanes’ art graces the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Denver Art Museum, Ogunquit Museum of American Art, Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College, Snite Museum of Art, Polk Museum of Art, The Arkansas Arts Center, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Art, DeLand, FL, and the museum collection of Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC.
