The new fourth-generation Continental GT Speed made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, both up the hill climb and in a special ‘underwater’ display.

This year’s festival theme, “Horseless to Hybrid – Revolutions in Power,” aptly frames the introduction of Bentley’s latest grand tourer. Presented in both coupe and convertible versions, the new Continental GT Speed stands as the most powerful road-going Bentley ever created.

It is driven by an all-new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain that delivers 782 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque, significantly increasing horsepower and torque compared to the outgoing W12 model while achieving a dramatic reduction in CO2 emissions to just 29 g/km.

This leap in performance, coupled with reduced environmental impact, marks a significant milestone in Bentley’s journey toward sustainable luxury.

Chassis System and Performance Upgrades

The performance of the powerful new powertrain is complemented by an advanced chassis system. This system features new two-chamber air springs paired with dual-valve dampers, Bentley Dynamic Ride (48V active anti-roll control), eLSD, and torque vectoring.

These technologies work in concert to ensure incredible body control and provide the best ride comfort for a Continental GT to date. Additionally, for the first time in the car’s history, the vehicle has a 49:51 rear-biased weight distribution.

This configuration enhances the vehicle’s handling dynamics, offering better balance and stability during spirited driving.

The inclusion of eLSD (electronic Limited Slip Differential) and torque vectoring further enhances the vehicle’s performance, improving traction and handling under various driving conditions.

This combination ensures that the Continental GT Speed delivers an exceptional driving experience even at high speeds.

New Exterior and Interior Design

The exterior of the new Continental GT Speed continues Bentley’s design revolution, featuring the most significant revision to the face of the Continental GT in two decades.

Notably, it is the first mainstream Bentley to feature single headlamps since the 1950s, blending innovation with homage to the brand’s storied past. Inside, Bentley’s reputation for world-leading interior cabin design, materials, quality, and craftsmanship is upheld.

The car introduces further wellness seat technology, new air ionisation, three-dimensional leather textures, modern quilting, and technical finishes such as new dark chrome. These features collectively elevate the driving experience, ensuring that the interior of the Continental GT Speed is as impressive as its performance capabilities.

Unique ‘Underwater’ Display and ‘FOShtank’ Exhibit

In addition to the two new Continental GT Speed examples showcased on the Hill Climb at Goodwood, a third car is displayed in a distinctive manner near the Kinrara Enclosure.

This display celebrates the unofficial ‘Underwater Speed Record’ – a feat believed to be the fastest a car has ever travelled through a tunnel, reaching speeds of 208 mph / 335 km/h.

The ‘FOShtank’ is a bespoke version of the glass ‘Toy Box’ display units used by Bentley at its Dream Factory campus in Crewe, England. This unique display has been modified to include a custom-built fish tank, offering a tongue-in-cheek take on the underwater theme and providing a striking visual spectacle at the festival.

Technical Advancements and Innovative Features

The combination of the new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, advanced chassis system, and innovative interior features ensures that the new Continental GT Speed offers an exceptional driving experience.

The new two-chamber air springs and dual-valve dampers contribute to the Continental GT Speed’s exceptional ride comfort, adapting to different road surfaces to provide a smooth and controlled ride.

Bentley Dynamic Ride system’s 48V active anti-roll control technology further improves handling and stability. Inside, wellness seat technology and a new air ionisation system enhance the cabin environment by reducing pollutants and allergens, while three-dimensional leather textures, modern quilting, and dark chrome finishes add a contemporary touch to the classic Bentley aesthetic.

These advancements reflect Bentley’s dedication to innovation and quality, ensuring that the Continental GT Speed sets new standards for luxury and performance in the grand touring segment.

Conclusion

The debut of the fourth-generation Continental GT Speed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed marks a significant milestone for Bentley. With its powerful new hybrid powertrain, advanced chassis system, and luxurious interior, this vehicle sets a new benchmark for performance and design in the grand touring segment.

Bentley continues to push the boundaries of automotive innovation, delivering a vehicle that embodies the brand’s commitment to luxury, performance, and sustainability.
