MR PORTER Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge brings bold design and refined dining to Mayfair, offering a cinematic escape beneath the Hilton Park Lane.

Tucked quietly beneath the Hilton on Park Lane, where Hyde Park’s leafy calm meets the hum of Mayfair, something unexpected awaits. There’s no fanfare at the entrance, just a discreet copper door, almost secretive. But descend the spiral staircase inside and you’ll find yourself in a space that feels at once cinematic, seductive and strangely serene.

This is MR PORTER London, the latest outpost from THE ENTOURAGE GROUP, brought to life by the internationally acclaimed design duo Baranowitz + Kronenberg.

Occupying 700 square metres beneath one of London’s most recognisable addresses, the restaurant is anything but subterranean in spirit. Inspired by the hidden Tyburn River that still flows beneath the capital’s streets, the interiors pay homage to history without a whisper of pastiche. Instead, MR PORTER dives into the depths, quite literally, of what it means to dine in the city today.

A Hidden World Carved in Copper and Velvet

Baranowitz + Kronenberg are known for their ability to conjure worlds that feel like dream sequences, and MR PORTER is no exception. The journey begins with a deliberate stripping away of the outside world. One moment you’re on Park Lane; the next, you’re wrapped in a monochrome cocoon and gliding downward through a sculptural stairwell. The sense of arrival is theatrical, yes, but also deeply considered.

At the heart of the restaurant lies a mirrored copper ceiling that plays visual tricks on the eye, creating a mirage of infinite space. Below, tones of brushed brass, burnished gold, velvet, and natural stone evoke warmth rather than opulence. The palette isn’t loud, it’s enveloping. Every surface is calibrated for comfort, every reflection intended to disarm rather than dazzle.

There’s a rhythm to it all, not unlike a piece of music. The acoustics are tuned, the lighting is low and grazing, and a high-fidelity audio system with live DJ programming pulses gently through the space. This is not a restaurant that demands attention, it earns it.

Rethinking the Steakhouse for a New Generation

While the design is steeped in texture and atmosphere, MR PORTER London is ultimately a reimagining of that most traditional of formats: the steakhouse. But forget leather banquettes and clubby, wood-panelled interiors. This is a steakhouse for the elegant and the curious, for those who want their chateaubriand with a side of style.

Baranowitz + Kronenberg refer to it as a “ladies’ steakhouse”: lighter in spirit, refined in execution, and decidedly modern. The central 360-degree bar is a statement in itself, both a focal point and a space of transition. Here, guests can sip cocktails in velvet-clad intimacy or strike up a conversation with fellow diners. The layout encourages flow rather than formality. There’s no front and back, no good table or bad, just a sense that every seat is part of the story.

Design as Experience, Not Ornament

“For us, architecture is about emotion first, admiration second,” explain Alon Baranowitz and Irene Kronenberg. “Designing MR PORTER London allowed us to explore that belief fully, to create a dialogue between space and experience. It’s not just about aesthetics. It’s about how people gather, taste, and feel.”

That ethos is evident in the smallest of details. From the curve of a chair to the lustre of a copper panel, there’s a sense of total cohesion. Nothing shouts; everything speaks. Texture becomes language. Light becomes mood. Space becomes narrative.

This holistic vision is mirrored by THE ENTOURAGE GROUP’s founder and creative force, Yossi Eliyahoo. “I don’t create restaurants,” he says. “I create experiences. It’s about understanding the soul of a city, its people, and crafting something that feels both familiar and entirely new.”

Eliyahoo’s knack for tapping into a location’s cultural undercurrents while introducing something just beyond expectation has made him one of Europe’s most in-demand hospitality minds. From Amsterdam to Ibiza, his venues are as notable for their atmosphere as their menus.

The Art of Contextual Storytelling

What sets MR PORTER apart is not just its elegant aesthetic or prime location. It’s the precision with which it speaks to London’s particular rhythms. Mayfair is a district shaped by dualities, luxury and restraint, tradition and reinvention. In many ways, MR PORTER echoes that DNA.

Rather than replicate the brand’s Amsterdam origins, Baranowitz + Kronenberg chose to design from the ground, or rather, the underground, up. The elusive Tyburn River, once flowing freely above ground before being covered in the 18th century, provided the conceptual starting point. That history of concealment and flow is translated into a space that is both hidden and immersive.

The designers’ ability to turn a historical footnote into a sensual environment is part of what makes their work so compelling. Previous projects like the Sir Joan Hotel in Ibiza and W Amsterdam have garnered critical acclaim for their atmospheric storytelling and layered design.

A Culinary Setting with Cultural Ambitions

While the press images of MR PORTER London showcase its gleaming interiors, it’s the real-world experience, how it feels to linger there, that truly defines its success. This isn’t just another Mayfair opening. It’s a signal of where luxury hospitality is heading: toward spaces that don’t just look good but feel meaningful.

The design doesn’t overshadow the food, it sets the stage for it. Whether for a leisurely lunch, a dinner of decadence, or cocktails into the early hours, the space morphs with the mood. It’s as suited to a first date as it is to a discreet business rendezvous or a celebratory night out.

The Future of Luxury Dining Spaces

As design becomes an ever-more integral part of the dining experience, spaces like MR PORTER London offer a blueprint for the future. Here, luxury isn’t defined by excess but by intention. Every element, material, sound, scent, light, has been curated to heighten the senses rather than overwhelm them.

In a world increasingly saturated with ‘Instagrammable’ venues chasing the next viral moment, MR PORTER feels like a welcome return to depth. It asks its guests not just to look, but to feel.

And that might just be the true definition of modern luxury.
