Likely at some point in September, possibly later, Apple will announce the grand reveal of its latest smartphone series and array of other gadgets and devices headed to the consumer before the end of the year. As always, it’ll command millions of views, and before the launch, rumours like to swirl around what could be revealed.
A big part of the iPhone rumour cycle is on the size of each of the devices in the series. However, the scale of the biggest in the iPhone 18 range is just one element. It’s also been heavily implied that this will be the year that Apple reveals its first foldable iPhone, most likely to be launched later than the flagship collection.
Will the iPhone 18 Pro Max Be the Biggest Yet?
Over time, the iPhone has gradually increased in size, capping out at the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro Max. They marked a 0.2-inch bump on the last three Pro Max models, which might imply that there’s another series to come at 6.9 inches. However, it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see Apple move into the 7-inch bracket.
After all, they’ve teased these increases to more or less test the market as they go. We’ve bounced well away from the days when smaller devices were favoured, back when buttons and mini flip phones were a thing. Most of the rumours think that the screen size won’t change, but customers would likely be open to the biggest iPhone yet.
People are spending a lot more time on their phones, particularly because the larger screens cater to a better entertainment experience. In the UK, the average for adults is four hours. Whether it’s watching films in UHD or playing the newest games at the casino online, a bigger screen with a better quality is always far better.
After all, iPhone pioneered the controls that all games and platforms have to adhere to now with its touchscreen. From popular classics like Big Bass Bonanza to newer games like Gold Blitz Fortune Tower Fusion, all must be mobile-optimised for touch and tap controls. Now, iPhone could make the experience even better by going bigger.
Will Apple Unveil a New Foldable iPhone?
Foldable touchscreen phones have been around for several years now, with Samsung getting the jump on the market. From gimmick to provably useful, the ability for them to fold, while being strangely durable, has enabled the device to both come together as a more convenient, pocket-sized piece while unfolding to 7.6 inches.
For now, the foldable iPhone isn’t officially confirmed. Within the code for a recent operating system update, though, the foldable device is all-but confirmed. iOS 27 showed that there is, at least, a foldable in the works at Apple. Should this come to fruition, a slimline foldable may be Apple’s path to another screen size upgrade.
Those that foresee a foldable iPhone on the way suspect that it’ll be released at a later date. First, it’ll be the even more premium-priced models, like the Pro and Pro Max, followed by the regular iPhone next spring, and perhaps the foldable’s release somewhere in between.
Until the grand ceremony goes live, everything is speculation, but the trends point to a bigger iPhone coming out in one form or another.
