In a remarkable twenty-year partnership, Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian “Polizia di Stato” have once again joined forces.
The latest addition to the collaboration is the delivery of an Urus Performante to the Italian Highway Police, scheduled to be in active service by 2024.
The ceremonial handover occurred on Tuesday, December 12, in Rome’s Piazza del Viminale, just outside the Ministry of the Interior headquarters.
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, presented the keys to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, with the Head of Police, Vittorio Pisani, in attendance.
A Decades-Long Partnership
This marks the continuation of a fruitful collaboration that originated in 2004 between Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian State Police. The Urus Performante becomes the sixth model to integrate into the Highway Police fleet, joining the ranks alongside the Huracán LP610-4.
Its primary role will encompass special services, particularly the urgent medical transport of vital resources such as organs and plasma.
Stephan Winkelmann expressed his satisfaction with the enduring partnership, stating, “It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our twenty-year co-operation with the Italian State Police. Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud.”
Tailored for Public Service
Lamborghini technicians at Sant’Agata Bolognese meticulously tailored the Urus Performante to adhere to police specifications. The exterior, starting from the livery, was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile.
It seamlessly combines the classic blue colour of the Italian State Police with white, featuring tricolour bands on the sills and seat belts. Reflective film police logos adorn the doors, while a roof-installed light bar with 360° blue LED lights and a two-tone electric siren enhance its visibility and audibility.
Purpose-Built Cockpit
The Urus Performante’s cockpit is not merely an aesthetic transformation. It has been customised with essential elements for public security service, including an armoured weapon box, a flip-down message display, and a special trunk compartment for stowing service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid response.
Crucially, it features a portable fridge for the safe transportation of organs, complete with a display and data logger for continuous temperature monitoring.
Under the hood, the Urus Performante is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering an impressive 666 CV of power and 850 Nm of torque. This powerhouse ensures acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 306 km/h.
Notably, this performance, combined with best-in-class driving dynamics, secured the record for the best time set by a production SUV on the renowned Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 2022.
In conclusion, Lamborghini’s Urus Performante stands not only as a symbol of luxury and high-performance driving but also as a crucial asset in the hands of the Italian Highway Police, contributing to public safety and emergency services with speed, precision, and style.
This continued collaboration reinforces the strong ties between Automobili Lamborghini and Italy, showcasing the brand’s commitment to excellence and societal well-being.
