Rather than saying that this is the best Chinese Restaurant in Mayfair I’ve been to, I can honestly say that this is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been too. Park Chinois oozes luxury as soon as you get to the door.
Walking through a thick velvet curtain we are greeted, coats taken and shown to the bar for cocktails. The ceiling is so beautiful, every inch of the venue has been thought of and embellished to create the feel of ultimate luxury. We sit by the fire on a red velvet sofa in front of the bar to watch the mixologist work. My fave cocktails were the rouge in-time which is similar to a very sweet Cosmo (Cosmo is my fave cocktail of all time).
We move into Club Chinois to take our seats where we watch the singer and band perform – it felt like being in an Emperors Palace! Our sommelier, helps us choose a bottle and then our food waiter makes suggestions on the menu. My partner and I like to share so we ordered Wasabi Prawns and the Chefs Selection of Steamed Dim Sum. If you like Wasabi the prawns are the best thing on the whole entire menu, I am still dreaming of the wasabi mayonnaise fried king prawns with nuts on top! The portion is huge and so we could have easily shared one starter. The Chef’s Dim Sum Selection was just four dumplings and so I would recommend ordering two of these if you are having them as starters.
For mains, we ordered the Braised Chilean Wagyu Beef Short Ribs in Black Bean Sauce and the Cantonese Roast Duck a l’Orange, Champagne Sauce with sides of Duke of Berkshire Pork Dan Dan Noodles. Again huge portions and we could have shared one main and one side! The beef was so tender that it melted in your mouth, something great to order if that’s your thing. However, the duck was exquisite – such a unique version of the dish I have never had. It worked perfectly with noodles. The duck was crispy on top but soft underneath the skin, with the sauce poured around the duck breast.
For pudding, we ordered the 85% chocolate fondant and coconut ice cream which was also very lovely.
The entertainment stayed on throughout the evening with short breaks in between sets. The staff were so attentive and friendly. Happy to talk to you or be invisible if you were in conversation. The bathrooms were amazing. The sinks feature faucets in the shape of swans and the decor which include a lot of bird motives underline the theme elegantly. Also, the bathroom stalls have lights/mirrors in for makeup/selfies!
It is easy to see why it possibly the most popular Chinese Restaurant in Mayfair. I would go as far to say its one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to and I am itching to go again the next chance a get. Thank you so much for having me Park Chinois, do not ever take Wasabi prawns off your menu!
