If you’re getting tired of the same old set of routines, then it could be that your life is simply missing a sense of novelty. One popular way to do this is through travel, but we might equally think about taking up a new hobby, mixing up the way we spend our week, or even joining an unfamiliar society or club.

The Power of New Experiences

Routine can be a powerful thing. It encourages us to stick with patterns of behaviour without consciously thinking about doing so. Go for a jog each morning, as a matter of routine, and you’ll be rewarded over the long term with improvements in your fitness.

On the other hand, too much routine can cause us to become stagnant, and to remain ignorant of the benefits of doing new things – or doing the same things slightly differently. Stick to the same recipe every time you make Pasta Bolognaise, and you might miss out on the thrill of discovering new varieties.

How Travel Opens Doors to Self-Discovery

Travel is perhaps the most powerful example of how novelty can throw up psychological benefits. When you travel to a new part of the world, meet new people, and delve into unfamiliar cultures, you might begin to see the world differently. This might lead to surprising insights at work, or in your personal life. If you visit Tokyo, Dubai, or Houston, you might see things that are better at home – but you might also see things to which you and your organisation can aspire.

The Role of Holiday Packages

Travel is often made complicated, or even annoying, by logistical concerns. There is, happily, a way to avoid these, and that’s with the help of holiday packages. When everything is bundled together, you’ll be able to not only stay aware of how much you’re spending; you’ll also be introduced to locations and experiences that you might not have chosen, if left to your own devices.

Tips for Embracing the Unexpected

Enjoying new experiences when you’re travelling often requires a particular mindset. You’ll need to be willing to embrace new opportunities and activities as they arise. One approach might be to set yourself a target: you might pledge to do something entirely new at least once per trip. Bear in mind, however, that this aspiration shouldn’t become an obligation, since this can lead to you suffering stress and pressure where it isn’t required.
