One of the most exiting street culture brands at the moment is MISHKA NYC. It is therefore no surprise that theirs was one of the most anticipated shows at this year’s Shanghai Fashion Week. The brand was founded in Brooklyn, New York, by Mikhail and Greg Rivera. The brand’s name and the iconic logo pays homage to ‘an eye-opening look and a violent temper in his countenance’. Since the brand’s inception in 2003 the eye-popping eyeball logo has become one of the most well known American street signs.
One of the major design elements found in their AW18 collection was the staple usage of denim. One of the main trends of 2017, patchwork, was reinvented with panels of different denim dyes being used rather than patches. Oversized patterns mixed with deconstruction of fabrics pays ode to the 90’s along with bursts of staple 90’s colours. These included reds, yellow, white, blue and green. The collection also incorporates both typography as well as the all-important graffiti elements.
