New York | United Kingdom
Over the years 1 has cemented its reputation as being the go-to place to find rare and exquisite objects. With a weekly line-up of some of the world’s rarest and most sought after items, it is easy to become slightly jaded to its announcements, purely due to the fact that, well, basically everything on offer is exceptional. There are however sales that come up now and again that are even more extraordinary than usual and demands everyone’s attention and the upcoming rare Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Sale is one of these.
Scheduled to take place on 13 October 2018 at Sotheby’s New York, the rare Domaine de la Romanée-Conti sale from the Personal Cellar of Robert Drouhin will be a dedicated auction totalling a 100 lots. Robert Drouhin is the patriarch of the family-run Maison Joseph Drouhin, who is internationally recognized as one of the wine industry’s most renowned figures.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3490″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Acquired by Mr Drouhin and his father, Maurice, directly from DRC, is an incredibly wide variety of DRC vintages ranging from 1937 to 1964. Most of these vintages were obtained during their time as the elusive distributors in France and Belgium for the Domaine. This fact offers a pristine and very rare provenance for the collection itself. Extraordinary bottles of Maison Joseph Drouhin from Gands Crus will also be on offer from 1959, 1961 and 1962.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3488″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3487″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The provenance that underlines only one owner since being removed from the cellar of one of the world’s most celebrated producers is surely one of the greatest drawing points to the sale, other than the opportunity to acquire legendary vintages of DRC. Robert Drouhin commented:
“It is a great pleasure to offer these 100 lots at auction with Sotheby’s Wine in October. These wines span four decades and are filled with remarkable and historic vintages from one of the world’s greatest Domaines. I have had access to these remarkable wines for many years, given that Maison Drouhin was the exclusive importer of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in France and Belgium from the late 1920s to the early 1960s. The wines being offered have never left Beaune and have been in my private cellar, undisturbed, for more than 50 years. I have been fortunate to enjoy many of these exceptional bottles with friends and family over the years, and now it is time to share them with others. I hope that the buyers of these wines will know how scarce they are, how good the wines should be, and drink them with friends and family who can appreciate and enjoy them the right way.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3489″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
