The Lion King LIVE In Concert In South Africa

The Lion King LIVE in Concert will see the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra accompany a screening of the new film this December at Time Square in Pretoria.

The Lion King is one of those movies that has transcended generations, cultures and language barriers. It is a coming of age film that taught us that no matter how impossible or desolate a situation might seem, truth and righteousness will always win the battle.

So, of course, when the news of the live-action remake hit, most of us had mixed emotions. Wouldn’t it be great to relive it again with fresh eyes? Or what if they mess up our beloved story? Will we like the changes?

Well whether you love it, hate it or hate that you love it, it is finally here. Through groundbreaking visual technology and the voices of James Earl-Jones, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, John Oliver and Beyoncé as well as South African icon Dr John Kani, the epic film will once again inspire, bewitch and influence an entirely new generation.

Now, let’s be honest. What made this movie so spectacular in the first place was really the music. Yes, there is a wonderfully crafted storyline, witty banter and memorable characters that we all mimicked but there is something about the music that is still with us today. From the moment the movie starts and the sun comes up over the African savanna as the iconic voice of LEBO M. rings with the words “Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba” you can’t help but get goosebumps.

The guys at FNB and Disney Africa must have felt the same because they have organised a truly special and unique experience. On the 10th, 11th and 12th of December 2019, The Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria will see the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra bring the score of the new Lion King movie to life.

The Senior Vice President and Country Manager at The Walt Disney Company Africa, Christine Service commented: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with FNB in bringing these world-class and unforgettable Disney live events to South African audiences over the next year. We are equally excited for these audiences to experience our films and characters in new and unexpected ways.”

This truly immersive experience of a perfectly synchronised live orchestral performance together with the screening of the film, directed by Jon Favreau, is sure to result in an experience you will never forget. Whether you are from South Africa or there this Christmas, The Lion King LIVE in Concert is certainly not something to be missed.
