Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, the epitome of luxury in the heart of the Vietnamese capital, has etched a new chapter in its illustrious 123-year history with the grand reopening of its historic Heritage Wing.
This monumental revival, following a meticulous 21-month refurbishment, breathes fresh life into the iconic hotel, blending tradition with contemporary sophistication.
A Storied Legacy Renewed: The Metropole Heritage Wing
The Metropole Heritage Wing, boasting 103 meticulously crafted guest rooms and suites, has undergone a transformative restoration.
The 1901-established original wing, steeped in history, has been the residence of heads of state, royalty, and renowned figures across the globe. Now, after a comprehensive reconstruction, it welcomes guests with a perfect fusion of traditional charm and modern opulence.
Approximately 60% of the wooden floors in the guest rooms have been refurbished or replaced, preserving the original aesthetic. Italian marble surfaces, new bathtubs, and showers grace the enhanced bathrooms.
Luxurious hand-tufted carpets, elegant furnishings, and contemporary artwork inject vibrant colours into the bright and airy rooms, creating a timeless atmosphere.
Crafting an Elevated Experience: Room Layouts and Technological Marvels
While guest room layouts remain mostly unchanged, six pairs of connecting rooms have metamorphosed into lavish suites.
Technological advancements include all-new IPTV, sound bars, mood lighting, and air-conditioning units, ensuring a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. The lighting system offers three modes, providing guests with a personalised experience.
The visionary touch of Singapore-based David Grace Designs International is evident in the revamped lobby and guest rooms. Managing Director Grace Soh articulates the aim as transcending mere design, crafting a timeless sanctuary of luxury and understated elegance.
The lobby, with its refurbished elements and new artisanal antique mirrored ceiling, emanates a sense of nostalgia intertwined with contemporary opulence.
A Stately Staircase and Cultural Inspirations: Navigating the Heritage Wing
The original wooden staircase, winding gracefully from the lobby to the guest room floors, stands as a testament to timeless elegance.
Preserving the bannisters and handrails from 1901, it remains a charming relic. The public areas draw inspiration from Vietnamese culture, featuring exclusively designed carpets with iconic symbols such as weaving patterns, conical hats, and vintage Indochine decor.
The Heritage Wing houses 54 Luxury rooms, 40 Grand Luxury rooms, six Metropole suites, and three Legendary suites named after illustrious former guests: Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham, and Charlie Chaplin.
This wing, a paragon of durability, underwent major renovations in 1992 and 2004, standing as a living testament to its timeless allure.
The Heritage Wing’s lobby, a focal point of the refurbishment, radiates an air of nostalgia and sophistication. With a partially refurbished and restored space, it features an artisanal antique mirrored ceiling, silver leaf-gilded artwork, and new reception desks.
These elements combine to create an environment that captures the essence of refined living while embracing the charm of days gone by.
Conclusion: A Timeless Sanctuary of Luxury
As the Heritage Wing of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi reopens its doors, it stands as a testament to the seamless transition from the past to the future.
General Manager George Koumendakos aptly describes it as offering “an even more sophisticated, elegant, and luxurious environment.”
