Bentley’s Sustainability Council: Leading the Green Revolution

Bentley, the renowned luxury mobility brand, has embarked on its ambitious journey to become a global leader in sustainable luxury mobility by introducing two significant initiatives.

With the launch of the Bentley Sustainability Council and the release of its first-ever Sustainability Report, the company aims to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and set new benchmarks in the industry.

The Bentley Sustainability Council: Guiding the Pursuit of Excellence

At the heart of Bentley’s sustainability drive is the newly formed Bentley Sustainability Council, consisting of a distinguished team of global experts. This council has been carefully assembled to not only challenge but also assist the company in achieving sustainability excellence as outlined in its Beyond100 strategy.

By providing an external voice and fresh ideas, the council seeks to encourage and push the boundaries of the company’s sustainability endeavours. The ultimate goal is to attain end-to-end carbon neutrality by 2030, ushering in a transformative era for the automotive industry.

Directly advising the Bentley Board of Management and the Sustainability Committee, the Council assumes a pivotal role in charting the course for Bentley’s sustainable future. With their expertise and guidance, the council members are set to challenge and drive the Bentley strategy, shaping the decisions that will shape the brand’s sustainability journey ahead.

Bentley’s First-ever Sustainability Report: An Open Account of Progress

Simultaneously with the establishment of the Bentley Sustainability Council, the company has unveiled its inaugural Sustainability Report. Through this report, Bentley aims to provide an open and transparent account of its progress towards sustainability. The report serves as a vital tool to better understand stakeholders’ perspectives, share advancements made under the Beyond100 strategy, and initiate open discussions about the challenges and opportunities lying ahead.

The decision to publish the Sustainability Report is a reflection of Bentley’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis while striving to claim the mantle of the global leader in sustainable luxury mobility. The report, available for online reading, meticulously highlights the numerous sustainability initiatives implemented across the value chain. Notably, the report sheds light on the company’s efforts at the historic Crewe campus and showcases the sustainable practices integrated into Bentley’s latest range of luxury cars.

Investment in Sustainability: A Promising Future

In 2022, Bentley made a landmark announcement of its £2.5 billion, ten-year sustainability investment programme. This substantial investment is aimed at fueling the development of future products and transforming the Pyms Lane factory in Crewe. As the birthplace of all Bentley models, this facility will play a crucial role in crafting the next generation of all-electric cars, symbolizing a monumental leap forward in the brand’s sustainability journey.

Bentley’s dedication to sustainability is well-founded, as evidenced by its impressive sales performance in 2022. With a record-breaking 15,174 exceptional cars sold, the brand achieved a remarkable four per cent growth compared to the previous year.

This remarkable growth was driven by the introduction of new models, increased demand for Mulliner personalisation, and the successful integration of hybridized models. Furthermore, Bentley’s financial results demonstrated remarkable progress, with operating profits increasing by nearly €1 billion over five years, reaching €708 million.

Launching the Sustainability Council and first Sustainability Report, Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, said:

“Our core principles of building the best grand tourers available have remained, but Beyond100 extends this, driving fundamental changes such as the shift from traditional powertrains to electric mobility, and how the company aims to become an end-to-end carbon-neutral business by 2030.

“At Bentley, we want to demonstrate our commitment to working transparently in our drive towards a more sustainable future. The report will be an annual publication, highlighting our progress as we move towards our Beyond100 targets. The newly established Sustainability Council will challenge our progress and aids our mission to become the global  leader in sustainable luxury mobility.”
