It was confirmed in an official statement issued by the palace that Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will be travelling to Texas. The visit that will take place from the 10th to the 13 of March 2019 will see the Princess visit Austin and Houston. During this trip, the Danish Crown Princess will be championing Danish companies that produce green energy and lifestyle solutions as well as Danish arts.
Hosted in Austin, the South by South West festival is one of the world’s most significant festivals that celebrate music, film, tech, gastronomy and art. Each year more than 280 000 people visit the festival. This year will see the first major participation by Denmark.
Joined by the Minister of Culture Mette Bock, Her Royal Highness will promote the ‘Danish way of doing things’. In the statement, the palace explained this as “focusing on Nordic values and competencies within innovation and creativity”. During the festival, The Crown Princess is set to visit many of the Danish companies and their representatives. This visit forms part of a multi-year Danish cultural promotion in the United States. This has been driven by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture.
This trip will not be the first contribution that the Princess has made in this capacity. Last year she helped launch the initiative to strengthen Danish art and culture throughout the United States of America. During this trip to Seattle, Her Royal Highness took part in the opening of the Nordic Museum where she was also a guest of honour.
Following the visit to Austin, the Crown Princess will travel to America’s fourth largest city, Houston. Here the Princess will be focussing on promoting green solutions from Denmark to the city. With Houston being known for oil the city is currently undergoing a massive transition to focus on green energy. During this vist, the Princess is expected to speak on green energy and Danish solutions to the world’s climate challenges.
After this, Her Royal Highness is expected to visit the world’s largest hospital complex with more than 100 000 employees. Here she will launch an initiative that will bring greater collaboration and partnership between Texas and Denmark. Hereafter, she will open a Danish Jewellery exhibition at the Houston Centre for Contemporary Craft. The gala dinner where she will be the guest of honour will be hosted by the Consulate General in Houston and the Embassy in Washington D.C.
