Dim Sum by China Tang debuts at Harrods, offering handcrafted Cantonese cuisine in an elegant Art Deco setting within the iconic Dining Hall.

Nearly two decades after Sir David Tang introduced China Tang to The Dorchester’s hallowed halls, the brand has made a confident, calculated expansion with the launch of Dim Sum by China Tang inside the illustrious Harrods Dining Hall.

This new opening marks not only a notable milestone in the evolution of a beloved institution but also a fresh chapter in London’s ever-evolving gourmet landscape.

Set within one of the most iconic retail destinations on the planet, the new outpost blends the brand’s signature flair with Harrods’ architectural grandeur to present an experience that is at once immersive, elegant, and delightfully authentic. And as China Tang approaches its 20th anniversary in 2025, this Harrods debut seems not just timely, but essential.

A Culinary Institution Expands with Purpose

Launched after a brief soft opening phase, Dim Sum by China Tang is far more than a satellite venture. It is a meticulously curated expression of the brand’s enduring commitment to excellence, with an emphasis on handcrafted, traditional Cantonese flavours reimagined through a lens of luxury.

This new venue presents a compact yet diverse menu featuring 14 savoury and two sweet dim sum varieties. Each item is prepared with the kind of detail and finesse that has long been synonymous with the China Tang name.

Highlights include the scallop dumplings crowned with caviar,an emblem of understated decadence, alongside a truffle and shiitake mushroom bao, and the exquisitely rendered Iberico pork xiao long bao. The menu further tempts with Wagyu taro puffs and the classic yet beloved chicken dumplings in a spicy, aromatic sauce.

Diners can also enjoy signature dishes carried over from the original Park Lane restaurant, including the expertly roasted duck and stir-fried A5 Wagyu beef, tossed in a piquant black pepper sauce. Each offering is thoughtfully conceived to pay homage to Cantonese heritage while appealing to the sophisticated, globally attuned palate of today’s luxury diner.

Where Art Deco Meets Cantonese Elegance

The Harrods Dining Hall, already steeped in architectural splendour with its Art Deco design, provides an evocative setting for China Tang’s latest endeavour. Rather than reinventing the space, the designers have allowed the brand’s aesthetic to harmonise with the building’s original features. The result is a seamless blend of old-world glamour and contemporary refinement, a tactile reminder of how timeless design can be both transportive and welcoming.

Every detail, from the lighting to the bespoke tableware, has been chosen to reflect the China Tang ethos. The atmosphere is intimate and unhurried, designed to mirror the pace of traditional Cantonese dining where each dish is savoured and every moment feels deliberate. With only 25 covers, the restaurant maintains an air of exclusivity while ensuring that every guest receives personalised attention.

Leadership in the Kitchen: Masters of Dim Sum Craftsmanship

At the helm of Dim Sum by China Tang is Head Chef James Xia, a culinary veteran with over three decades of experience specialising in Cantonese cuisine. Xia’s pedigree includes leading roles in some of London’s most acclaimed Asian restaurants, including a senior tenure at Le Chinois in Knightsbridge. His culinary philosophy is grounded in authenticity but unafraid to embrace innovation,a balance that defines every plate served at this new Harrods outpost.

Working alongside him is Chef He, China Tang’s dedicated Dim Sum master since 2019. Known for his precision and artistry, Chef He oversees the creation of every dumpling, bao, and puff served both at Harrods and at the original location in The Dorchester. His presence ensures continuity between the two locations, allowing the Harrods experience to feel as elevated and consistent as the Park Lane flagship.

An Elevated Beverage Offering

Beyond its captivating cuisine, Dim Sum by China Tang also caters to the discerning tastes of luxury connoisseurs through an expertly curated drinks menu. Guests can explore a refined selection of fine wines and premium Chinese teas, including the renowned Iron Goddess,an oolong varietal cherished for its complex floral notes and lingering finish.

For those seeking a more contemporary take on tradition, a lineup of tea-based cocktails and mocktails adds a playful yet sophisticated dimension. The Tang Tea Punch, for instance, offers a refreshing blend of citrus and delicate tea infusions, ideal for pairing with the nuanced flavours of the dim sum.

Strategic Partnerships and a Vision for the Future

Commenting on the significance of this new opening, Nathalie Ford, VP Europe and Middle East for China Tang, stated:

“We are thrilled to bring Dim Sum by China Tang to Harrods in what marks the beginning of an exciting five-year partnership. It is a significant new chapter for the brand, allowing us to offer guests an elevated dim sum experience in one of the world’s most iconic dining locations. This collaboration embodies our commitment to partnering with the best of the best, and we are especially grateful to Ford Consultancy for facilitating this deal. We look forward to welcoming both loyal patrons and new diners to experience China Tang in this extraordinary setting.”

Her words underscore the strategic importance of this launch, not merely as a business move but as a deeper brand alignment between two pillars of heritage luxury: Harrods and China Tang. The partnership is set to span five years, providing ample opportunity for the brand to evolve and adapt within one of the most coveted culinary addresses in London.

The Allure of Location: Harrods Dining Hall

Positioned on the ground floor of Harrods, the Dining Hall is an architectural and gastronomic destination in its own right. With its original 1920s Art Deco features lovingly preserved and thoughtfully integrated into modern design, it provides a fitting stage for culinary experiences that aspire to the exceptional.

For Dim Sum by China Tang, this means joining a select roster of premium food offerings within a venue visited by millions of global travellers and tastemakers annually. The compact layout and limited seating amplify the sense of exclusivity, transforming a meal into an experience that feels both private and profound.

A Testament to Timeless Craft

In many ways, the arrival of Dim Sum by China Tang at Harrods is more than an expansion,it is a reaffirmation of values that have always set the brand apart: craftsmanship, authenticity, and elegance. At a time when many luxury brands are racing to stay ahead of trends, China Tang remains steadfast in its celebration of tradition, executed with poise and a modern sensibility.

The result is an experience that does not chase novelty but instead refines it. Every bite, every detail, and every interaction at Dim Sum by China Tang is a tribute to the culinary traditions of Canton, rendered in a way that feels fresh, vital, and unmistakably luxurious.

A Must-Visit Destination for the Discerning Palate

With its debut in Harrods’ Dining Hall, Dim Sum by China Tang offers more than just an exquisite meal,it delivers an immersive experience steeped in heritage, elevated by design, and defined by craftsmanship. Whether for loyal patrons of the Park Lane original or curious first-timers seeking the pinnacle of dim sum artistry, this new destination is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the art of fine dining.

As China Tang nears its 20-year milestone at The Dorchester, its continued expansion into new, world-renowned settings such as Harrods not only reflects its lasting appeal but signals a vibrant future grounded in the timeless values of taste, hospitality, and cultural reverence.
