This year’s Outstanding Achievement Award will be given to Giorgio Armani during The Fashion Awards 2019.
There are a few names that are synonymous with fashion. One of these is Giorgio Armani. Just the mere mention of his name immediately conjures up images of luxury clothing items, homeware and recently even luxury hotels.
In an official statement, the British Fashion Council announced that the designing giant Armani will be the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award at the annual Fashion Awards.
On Monday 2nd December at the Royal Albert Hall, the who’s who will be descending on the London landmark to celebrate the best of the fashion industry as well as the man of the hour.
Caroline Rush CBE the Chief Executive at the British Fashion Council commented: “We are thrilled to be honouring Giorgio Armani with the Outstanding Achievement Award. With more than four decades in the business, Mr Armani’s contribution to the fashion industry is indeed outstanding. Renowned for his timeless vision of style and the brands’ ability to stay relevant, he has led the way where other brands have followed. We look forward to celebrating with him in London in December.”
Born in Piacenza, Armani first studied medicine before moving to Milan. Here he started his career in fashion, working at the La Rinascente department store as a buyer. Following this, he worked with a few companies as a freelance designer. Then, his partner Sergio Galeotti persuaded Armarni in 1975 to open his own label.
In the same year, that July, Giorgio Armani S.p.A. was born. The label started as a ready-to-wear collection with both male and female lines. From the onset, the Italian designer’s clear understanding of his customer’s needs and desires were spot on. His brand soon grew along with it the expansion of his fashion empire.
With American Gigolo, Armani’s long-standing relationship with costume design for film started. Since then, the designer has created costumes for over 200 films. He then released his first fragrance in 1982 and his first home collection in 2000. In 2005 the designer launched his Haute Couture collection in Paris. In 2010 he opened the first Armani Hotel in Dubai followed by Milan in 2011.
His contribution to the luxury industry has been mammoth and his influence has made him a household name in the furthest corners of the earth.
