Have you ever wondered how fast does hair grow? We have put together some helpful tips on growing your hair to ensure you speed up the process.
For many of us, the hair that is found on top of our heads isn’t just there for show, it is a reflection of us and our personality. For some, their hair is even their identity and is considered to be as common a part of them as a vital organ.
Over the last twelve months, as a result of salons and barbers being closed for months on end, longer hair has become noticeably more fashionable and as a result, more people are looking to grow their hair than ever before.
If you’re considering growing your hair, you may want to know how fast does hair grow, and indeed, what you can do to speed up the process. To help you find that long hairstyle that you’ve always wanted, here’s a look at several tips for growing your hair.
Firstly, how fast does hair grow?
Answering this question would be like answering a question about how long a piece of string is. The simple fact of the matter is we can’t give a definitive answer because different people’s hair grows at different rates.
What we can tell you, though, is that from the moment you’re born, you’re born with the most hair follicles you will ever have, which is roughly 5 million.
Of these 5 million, around 100,000 are located on your scalp. Each day, you will lose around 50 – 100 hairs. Your hair grows from a root located on the scalp on the bottom of a follicle which is located directly under the skin. Blood in the scalp supplies nutrients and oxygen to the follicle, which stimulates growth, just like fertilizer would stimulate plant growth.
On average, the hair grows roughly half an inch per month, which per year, is around 6 inches. Again, don’t take this too literally as some people’s hair will grow considerably more, and some will grow considerably less.
Tips on boosting hair growth
Okay, so you’ve decided you want to grow your hair into a head of luscious locks, what can you do?
Here’s a look at a few quick tips on boosting hair growth naturally.
Get plenty of nutrients
One of the most effective ways of boosting hair growth is to consume plenty of nutrients in the form of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Your body requires energy and nutrients to stimulate hair growth, so eat healthy and nutritious food, and consider supplementing with vitamin and mineral supplements too.
Avoid protein restriction
Protein is found in our skin, hair, cells, and nails and we therefore need to ensure we’re getting enough if we want our hair to grow.
Experts recommend at least 50g of protein per day in order to keep the hair healthy, though the bigger you are, the more you will require.
Avoid too much heat
One of the easiest ways to damage your hair and slow down hair growth is to constantly stress it with heat. When you dry your hair, try to dry it naturally rather than with a hairdryer, and keep the use of curling irons and hair straighteners to a minimum, as the more you use them, the unhealthier your hair will be.
