Christmas and the festive season in general is meant to be a time of fun and laughter, but a lot of the time we make it very stressful by trying to make it perfect.

There’s just so much to do, and rather than spending time with our loved ones, we get caught up in everything on our to-do list and don’t end up having much fun at all. However, it is possible to have a much less stressful Christmas, and here are some ways you can do it.

Plan Ahead

If you want a truly stress-free Christmas, planning ahead is the key to everything. Start as early as possible by creating a to-do list that includes everything from shopping for gifts to cooking the Christmas dinner.

Not only will you feel more in control and less stressed if you’ve planned ahead and know precisely when different jobs need to be done (therefore allowing yourself plenty of time to do them), but you’ll find you can budget better, too.

Money can often be a source of stress at Christmas, but if you plan early and spread out your spending, you should be able to get everything you need and want without so much worry.

Make Gift Giving Easier

Gift giving is another very stressful part of Christmas. It’s not just about the cost as mentioned above, but about how long it takes to find the perfect gift and worrying about whether or not someone is going to like it. If you want to de-stress at Christmas, why not make gift giving a lot easier?

One idea you can try is to draw names from a hat and only buy a gift for that one particular person.

This means you’ll buy fewer gifts and can truly focus on getting that one special present for whoever’s name you got; or, what about making homemade gifts such as cookies or candles?

These are always well received and you can personalize them to make them even more unique and memorable.

Think About The Clean Up

Perhaps it’s not Christmas itself that’s stressing you out, but the clean up afterwards. It can get very messy, and if you’re hosting the big day, there will be a lot to deal with, especially if you’ve made a big Christmas dinner.

The good news is there are steps you can take to make it easier to clean up your home, and give you more time to enjoy with your loved ones.

One idea is to use special Christmas cups that can be disposed of when you’re done, saving you the chore of washing up.

Another idea that will help is to delegate jobs to other family members. If you give everyone a task to do, the work will be done more quickly, and it won’t all fall to you, which can be frustrating and may even ruin what would otherwise have been a lovely day.

Give every person who’s in your home one small job, and whether it’s picking wrapping paper up off the floor, folding cardboard boxes, or filling the dishwasher, the work will get done in no time.
