Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx’s Testing Triumph

Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx recently concluded a successful three-day testing session at the Circuito de Almería in Spain, further refining their SC63 LMDh challenger.

This prototype is set to make its competitive debut at the FIA World Endurance Championship 2024 season opener in Qatar next March, and the testing focused on reliability and procedural aspects.

Reliability and Procedural Testing

The primary objectives of this testing phase were to evaluate the reliability of the SC63 LMDh challenger and fine-tune procedural aspects. Over the course of three days at the 4.2km circuit in the Andalucian desert of southwest Spain, technicians from both Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx conducted a series of tests and long runs to gather crucial data and insights.

The test primarily revolved around using a single chassis across all three days, successfully reaching its pre-test target of nearly 2,000 km. Moreover, the testing provided an opportunity to simulate Full Corse Yellow situations and related restart procedures and strategies, which are essential in endurance racing.

Romain Grosjean’s Debut

An exciting highlight of this testing session was the debut of Romain Grosjean behind the wheel of the SC63. Grosjean, the Swiss driver who has previously participated in selected endurance events in the WeatherTech IMSA Sports Car Championship with Iron Lynx, embarked on his testing program during the opening afternoon. He alternated with Factory Driver Andrea Caldarelli, and together, they shared the mileage throughout the remainder of the test.

Grosjean expressed his enthusiasm for the experience, saying, “It was a very intense three days, but I am very happy to have been able to work with the team and the car on the track for the first time. The car proved to be very good from the first laps, and I can’t wait to put even more kilometres on it during the next tests.”

He further added, “It felt really good, and I am happy to be in Almería with the whole team and discovering all the people and the work that has been going on behind the scenes. So, I am very excited to be here; the car felt really good from the beginning, but obviously, we still have a bit of a journey [ahead of us]. But the work that has been done prior to my arrival has been very good, and I am looking forward to learning more about the car.”

Continuation of the Test Programme

The testing journey continues for Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx as they prepare for the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship 2024 season. The next phase of the test program will take place in Europe, followed by the Lamborghini Iron Lynx test team’s move to the United States. In the US, they will continue the homologation process with IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and conduct a series of tests on North American tracks to further enhance the SC63 LMDh challenger’s performance.

In summary, Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx are dedicated to ensuring that their SC63 LMDh challenger is well-prepared for the competitive racing season ahead, with a strong emphasis on reliability and procedural proficiency. The inclusion of Romain Grosjean, with his positive initial impressions of the car, adds to the anticipation surrounding this exciting development in the world of endurance racing.
