We take a closer look at the new Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car to see what the GTs could look like in 2035.
With the way and speed at which technology is changing at the moment, it does at times feel as if we are already living in the future. Well, that was until now. During the celebration of Bentley’s centenary, they released the new Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car. This incredible vision of the future is so futuristic that at times it makes you feel like a character in the Flintstones watching a Jetsons episode.
Firstly, let’s take a look at the design. This exceptionally striking vehicle’s frame is made from light-weight aluminium and carbon fibre. At a length of 6m and 2.6m wide, the Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car is surprisingly long. But due to its sleek lines and proportions, it hides the size very well and does not seem as large just by looking at it.
One of the most noticeable features on the exterior design has to be the illuminated grille. It consists of over 6 000 LED lights. But don’t let this large grille fool you in thinking that it is there for a technical reason. The car does not have a combustion engine and is completely electrical. It boasts 4 separate electric motors throughout. But, this is no slow-performance electrical car. Oh no. These electric motors combined produce 1 400 horsepower and 1 500 newton meters of torque. That gives the Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car a top speed of 299 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds!
Now, of course, the batteries used in this car is not what we currently have available. Bentley stated that the batteries used in this concept car would be five times more energy-dense than anything we have available at the moment. This will translate into a range of 700 kilometres and the entire car will only weigh 1 900 kg. But, to us, the most impressive feature of this system, yes, more impressive than the power or the speed, is the recharge time. The system will allow you to charge your car up to 80% in just 15 minutes.
Although the Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car is exceptionally futuristic and looks more like a spaceship at times than a car, it looks is still quintessentially Bentley.
But what we love the most about the exterior design has to be the doors. At two meters long, they pivot outwards and upwards and reach a total height of 3 meters.
Another exceptional feature is the rear lights. Surrounding the thin rear lights you have a panel of 3D OLED screens. This could be customized to display virtually any pattern desirable. Now if that is not personal customisation, we don’t know what is.
This car’s design is based on three major concepts; sustainability, high-performance and driving experience. This fully electric vehicle is completely autonomous, when you want it to be, and explores some incredible concepts in the fields of artificial intelligence and biometrics.
An ultra-futuristic feature can be, surprisingly, found on the tires. Through piezoelectric motors, the tread pattern on the tires can be changed during the drive as you encounter various weather or driving environments.
The interior is simply awe-inspiring. The attention to detail, craftsmanship balance and the harmonious blend of the finishes create the kind of interior that… well, I’m not sure any of us would want to leave.
As for the internal features of the car, there are simply too much to mention. One incredible feature is found in the seats. This feature monitors your posture and body temperature to adjust your seat configuration completely in order to result in the most comfortable seating experience possible.
The car can also measure your blood pressure, as well as eye and head movements and then uses artificial intelligence to create the optimal driving experience.
But, perhaps the most incredible feature is the glass canopy. By capturing light through the prisms, it can harvest natural light. By recording this, the fibre optics can then display the light on demand.
In order words, it can record the sunrise’s characteristics on a specific drive and basically replay that experience visually at any given time. The canopy can also go from opaque to transparent and allows a completely customizable outdoor-indoor experience.
Another great feature is the Bentley personal assistant. This voice assistant, much like Siri, can actually deliver information on anything that you are looking at as you drive. Clearly the tour guide has no place in the future.
Should you put the car in autonomous mode, the front seats and spin around to create a moving sitting room where you can chat face to face with your passengers in the back seat as the steering wheel completely retracts into the dashboard.
The mind-blowing Bentley EXP 100 GT Concept Car truly is like something out of a dream. Its innovation, design and intelligence has us feeling almost underwhelmed with the latest releases of any other car and terribly excited to see what Bentley will actually produce in the decades to come.
