The masters of bespoke, Rolls-Royce, has managed to push the boundaries yet again with the launch of the new limited Rolls-Royce wraith luminary. This exceptional new design is clear in its understated yet undeniable boldness. It features an incredibly strong form but is combined with smooth and soft lines.
This design is a clear depiction of its inspiration. The luxury car manufacturer stated that it drew inspiration for the design from those who lead where others follow. Its imposing presence is a personification if its owner. The name further underlines this as the Oxford English Dictionary defines Luminary as a person who inspires or influences others, especially one prominent in a particular sphere.
Due to the exceptional demand for Rolls-Royce vehicles worldwide, especially for the collectables, the company decided to create something truly unique, spectacular and bespoke. The new Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary will see a limited number of only 55 of them made and sold worldwide. The Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, commented:
“Wraith Luminary is a stunning Collection Car. It speaks directly of our contemporary Rolls-Royce brand – progressive and trailblazing; the pinnacle in hand-crafted luxury. This is a motor car that celebrates visionaries who achieve eminence in their respective fields. Indeed, this collection is for the world’s luminaries.”
Every inch of the new Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary is bespoke, from the interior to the exterior. The newly developed exterior paint inspired by the heady shade of the golden hour’s sunrays has been aptly named Sunburst Grey. The bespoke aspect of the exterior paint has been taken a step beyond with hand-painted Wake Channel Lines on the Wraith’s bonnet, a hand-painted Sunburst Motif coachline and pinstripes are applied to the wheel centres. Each of these in Saddlery Tan, bearing reference to the colourway of the interior leather.
Rolls-Royce has always been known for the incredible attention to detail found throughout their vehicles, but it is safe to say that the new limited edition Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary is setting a new president for the master car-builders. From the moment that the coach doors are opened the passenger is met with the ultimate in luxury, refined elegance and sleek design. The light seems to flow within the cabin, seamlessly rolling from the front to the rear. The cabin has been masterfully crafted with the finest finishings throughout. Tudor Oakwood, that has been sourced from the forests of the Czech Republic, is selected based on the density of the grain structure, the depth of the wood of colour and for the first time is illuminated. The Tudor Oak veneer has been intricately perforated allowing for the light of 176 LEDs to shine through which results in a spectacular pattern.
All of the illumination throughout the vehicle is linked to the controls panel, allowing the driver to create whichever ambience they choose. Another prized Rolls-Royce feature that is available in this limited-edition Wraith is the starlight headliner. This art-piece of electrical engineering is a handwoven configuration of 1 340 fibre optic lights which replicates the glittering starry-night. This edition, however, takes this feature a step further by incorporating the illusion of shooting stars into the constellations. This exceptional feature takes nearly 20 hours to configure the eight shooting stars to fire at random. These predominantly take place over the front seats in recognition of the Wraith’s owner-driver appeal.
The Saddlery Tan leather interiors in the cockpit of the vehicle are contrasted with Anthracite leather in the rear seats. Further contrast has been created through piping and stitching that create a flow between the back and rear of the cabin. The level of bespoke detail has again been pushed to include the application of a groundbreaking hand-woven stainless-steel fabric. This has been appointed to the central transmission tunnel and door panniers.
“Incorporating strands which are 0.08mm – 0.19mm in diameter, this technical fibre is woven in a pattern oriented at precisely 45 degrees, to complement the lines of the interior and provide a uniform appearance throughout the passenger compartment when viewed from either side. Taking three days to produce in a ‘clean room’ environment, the fabric is manipulated to cloak the centre console, modified from use in an industrial environment to create a finish befitting the interior of a Rolls-Royce motor car, refracting the light of the unique illuminated paneling in the doors.”
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary’s tread plates bear its provenance. Engraved on hand-polished stainless steel are the words ‘WRAITH LUMINARY COLLECTION – ONE OF FIFTY-FIVE’.
This model truly is exceptional in every way. The marriage between automotive performance, innovative expression and masterful bespoke detailing is virtually unmatched. Its exterior lines are intoxicating and the interior inviting and truly extraordinary. The new Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary is the ultimate collector’s piece. Its ‘desire value’ goes far beyond the limited number of availability but can be judged purely based on its offering.
