SAii Invites InSAiiders to Eco-Friendly Getaways in 2024

SAii, the renowned lifestyle brand under S Hotels and Resorts, extends a warm invitation to its “InSAiiders” – avid global travellers in pursuit of unique experiences – to embark on eco-conscious holidays in 2024.

With a focus on sustainability, SAii presents four exceptional resorts in Southern Thailand and the Maldives, offering responsible encounters with indigenous marine life, including sharks.

Revitalising the SAii Brand for Sustainable Tourism

InSAiiders are in for an immersive journey, aligned with SAii’s recent brand revitalisation efforts. Late last year, SAii unveiled a renewed commitment to providing locally-inspired stays that not only enrich travellers but also positively impact the environment and communities.

Travellers can expect educational experiences on local ecosystems and opportunities to engage in professionally-led conservation programmes at SAii’s Marine Discovery Centres, situated at SAii Phi Phi Island Village and SAii Lagoon Maldives.

SAii, alongside S Hotels & Resorts and parent company Singha Estate, aims to enhance key biodiversity by 30% by 2030, both on land and at sea.

Conservation Efforts at SAii Phi Phi Island Village

At SAii Phi Phi Island Village, the Marine Discovery Centre, in collaboration with the Green World Foundation, is dedicated to preserving flora and fauna. During surveys of the mangrove forest near the resort, an astounding 292 species were identified, including the orbiculate cardinalfish – a species previously undocumented in the Andaman region of Thailand.

This discovery underscores the remarkable biodiversity of the mangrove ecosystem, attracting environmentally-conscious travellers seeking unique experiences. Furthermore, through partnerships with local communities in Koh Phi Phi, SAii Phi Phi Island Village is committed to preserving biodiversity, with initiatives spanning 192,000 square metres of natural habitat.

The resort’s SOS (Save Our Sharks) initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Phuket Marine Biological Centre, focuses on releasing bamboo sharks into the Andaman Sea, with 30 sharks released and 29 shark eggs laid since the project’s inception in 2021.

Preserving Marine Life at CROSSROADS Maldives

In the Maldives, the Marine Discovery Centre team at CROSSROADS Maldives, encompassing SAii Lagoon Maldives, has spearheaded coral propagation efforts, resulting in a six-fold expansion of the local reef. Native species, including scalloped hammerhead sharks, bottlenose wedgefish, and critically endangered hawksbill sea turtles, have been sighted in the area.

Through a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldivian government, CROSSROADS Maldives’ conservation area has been recognised as part of an Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECM) programme, covering 3.1 million square metres – the largest protected marine area in the Indian Ocean.

Promoting Wellbeing Through SAii Live Well

Under the reimagined SAii Live Well concept, SAii’s resorts offer a comprehensive array of in-stay initiatives promoting wellbeing, including Eat Well, Sleep Well, Fit Well, Stay Well Spa, and Explore Well.

With a commitment to sustainability, each resort aims to minimise food waste through locally sourced menus and offers guests the opportunity to participate in local cooking classes.

SAii, S Hotels & Resorts, and Singha Estate are dedicated to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030. To realise this ambitious goal, SAii plans to annually reduce carbon emissions by 5% starting in 2024, employing strategies such as carbon tracking, waste reduction, and the adoption of green energy. The installation of solar panels in Thailand and the Maldives is expected to contribute to a 20% reduction in carbon emissions.

Commitment to Sustainability Recognised

Integral to S Hotels & Resorts’ sustainability strategy is the independent assessment of its operations. Last year, SAii Laguna Phuket, SAii Phi Phi Island Village, and CROSSROADS Maldives received Green Globe™ Certification, affirming their dedication to environmental stewardship.

Mr Michael Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of S Hotels & Resorts, emphasises SAii’s commitment to environmental and community stewardship. He states, “At SAii, we understand our responsibility to care for the environments and communities we operate in. Every aspect of our operations is dedicated to preserving the balance of nature, from energy and water management to waste reduction. Through our Marine Discovery Centres, we aim to empower our InSAiiders to engage in sustainable, experience-driven travel.”

In conclusion, SAii invites travellers to embark on a journey that transcends traditional tourism, offering enriching experiences while championing environmental conservation and community empowerment.

As SAii and its partners pave the way towards a more sustainable future, travellers are invited to join the movement and become advocates for responsible travel.
