In a groundbreaking move, Automobili Lamborghini has officially inked the renewal of its Corporate Supplementary Contract, marking a pivotal moment four years since the last agreement.
The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based manufacturer, in collaboration with unitary trade union representatives including FIOM CGIL and FIM CISL, sealed the deal following an internal company referendum where employees overwhelmingly endorsed the agreement.
The renewed contract brings forth substantial changes, including a comprehensive revision of working hours and a commitment to hire 500 permanent employees by 2026.
Trailblazing Changes in Working Hours
The recently signed agreement, emerging from a draft concluded in December, stands out for its innovative features. Notably, the amendments to working hours will be implemented between late 2024 and early 2025, initiating a pilot project to assess their feasibility and alignment with all company processes.
Following a year of testing, a committee of experts will evaluate the long-term sustainability of this new work organization.
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, expressed pride in the historic agreement, stating, “We are truly proud to have reached this historic agreement. This is a new development in the workplace that once again demonstrates how much our company cares about the welfare of its employees and constantly strives to be more and more attractive.”
Strategic Focus on Employee Wellbeing
The signing of the agreement follows a year of intricate negotiations, highlighting the complexities involved.
Noteworthy changes are introduced in the realm of work-life balance, emphasizing greater flexibility and restructuring of hours spent at the company. The primary objective is to align employee well-being, a cornerstone of Automobili Lamborghini’s success, with sustained productivity and economic potential.
Specifically, in the production sector, a differentiated shift pattern will be implemented, restructuring working hours and introducing alternating four-day and five-day weeks.
This adjustment grants staff one Friday off every two weeks (for two-shift departments) or two Fridays off every three weeks (for three-shift departments). For non-production employees, the agreement enhances the system of flexible working hours, offering additional paid leave and supporting the company’s existing policy of up to 12 days of remote work per month.
Umberto Tossini, Chief People, Culture & Organization Officer at Automobili Lamborghini, emphasized the satisfaction in concluding a complex negotiation, stating, “Bringing such a complex negotiation to a successful conclusion is a source of satisfaction. But the most important gratification comes from the innovative content of the agreement, which redesigns the shift and working-time system.”
Diverse and Inclusive Work Environment
The agreement doesn’t just stop at restructuring working hours; it also introduces measures to protect diversity and promote inclusion. It strengthens protections for contract labour, enhances individual rights, and provides company support for parenting.
Notably, the economic integration borne by the company for optional maternity/paternity leave guarantees a minimum of between 70% and 80% of normal pay, increased to 100% for single parents or leave required for children with disabilities.
Additionally, the commitment to personnel recruitment is underlined in the agreement, with plans to hire 500 new employees with permanent contracts by December 2026.
This initiative aligns with the development agreement submitted by the company to the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, recently approved by the Emilia Romagna Region. This commitment to increased employment adds to the over 1,000 permanent hires made by the House of Sant’Agata Bolognese in the last decade.
In conclusion, this agreement signifies a monumental step for Automobili Lamborghini, showcasing its growth trajectory and vision for the years to come. The commitment to innovative work culture, employee wellbeing, and diversity sets a precedent for the industry, establishing Automobili Lamborghini as a trailblazer in both automotive and corporate landscapes.
