Although cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are found in the cannabis sativa (hemp) plant, their chemical composition is quite different. The psychoactive properties of THC are the key differentiating factor (property) between the two. Smoking or consuming marijuana (high in THC) makes one high.
CBD and THC oil are also different in that THC oil is commonly concentrated in the flowering parts of the cannabis plant, while CBD is only present in the stems, leaves, and stalks of the same. Although the flowering part may still contain some CBD, most companies avoid it to help THC levels in their product (CBD oil) as minimal as possible.
Only CBD oil with less than 0.3% THC levels is considered federally legal. Anything with a higher THC concentration would be illegal. CBD contains properties that are highly beneficial to the human body and is available at many reputable retailers such as Flawless CBD. Some of the benefits of CBD oil are discussed below.
1. CBD Can Help Fight Acne Infections
Acne is a common condition today; at least 95% of all people have had the condition at some point. Acne mainly develops when sebum, dead skin cells, and other pollutants are trapped inside skin pores. Sebum is a natural waxy-oily substance that helps keep the skin moist and hydrated. Excessive production of sebum has been attributed to causing acne breakouts.
Other factors such as diet, genetics, and some medications can also worsen the condition. CBD oil and CBD capsules, however, contain potent anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce the severity of the breakouts or even prevent a recurrence of the same.
The skin is vital in protecting internal body organs from harm, especially toxic pollutants and harsh weather elements. With the skin predisposed to all these harsh elements, its risk of sustaining injuries is quite high. Most of these elements are known to trigger acne breakouts and make the condition worse. Taking CBD capsules can however help fight some of these triggers.
Although there’s limited research on the antifungal and antibacterial effects of CBD on acne and other skin conditions, preliminary trials show positive results. From the limited trials, CBD might be beneficial in eliminating pollutants and dirt from the skin, making it easier for one to recover. That said, topical-based CBD products can be used as an effective anti-acne skin regimen and a moisturizer.
Ingestible CBD can also be used alongside topical CBD products to help fight the breakouts on all fronts.
2. CBD May Help Regulate Sleep Patterns
According to a clinical trial conducted to evaluate the effects of CBD on healthy persons’ sleep patterns, researchers found out that CBD, unlike antidepressant and anxiolytic drugs, didn’t interfere with the subjects’ sleep cycles. Interestingly, participants on CBD (300mg) reportedly slept faster and soundly than the rest.
One explanation for this might be due to adenosine binding in the brain gradually.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is known to help inhibit the release of neurotransmitters, allowing the brain and body, in general, to slow down, relax, and sleep. With enough adenosine triphosphate in the blood, one can sleep soundly for longer as it is metabolized. Only after the ATP levels have dropped significantly that the body starts to get out of sleep mode.
CBD binds onto adenosine receptors inhibiting the uptake of adenosine. This, in return, results in higher concentrations of adenosine in the body and brain, encouraging sleep. CBD capsules can thus be considered a safe and effective remedy for anyone looking to improve or maintain REM sleep.
3. CBD Helps Manage Chronic Neuropathic Pain
CBD has long been used as a home remedy for chronic pains. Although additional research is still needed to evaluate and determine how CBD works to alleviate pain, a recent (2018) publication by the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews concluded CBD to be beneficial in helping manage chronic pain. Chronic pain is a common condition, especially in patients who have multiple sclerosis and cancer, among other diseases.
In the study, double-blinded controlled trials were conducted on 16 random participants. The review mainly focused on the effectiveness of CBD oils and Cannabis-based medicines in treating chronic pains. While the researchers noted many potential benefits, they also noted several adverse effects.
Among the side effects noted, include mental disorientation, nausea, and dizziness, which might overwhelm the said benefits. However, it is worth noting that the researchers used different cannabis-based products and methods, such as sprays, inhaled cannabis, oils, and oral tablets with CBD and/or THC from plant sources.
The report also notes that most of these side effects may be due to some products containing some THC.
4. CBD May Help Manage Drug Addictions
CBD contains properties that may help persons struggling with drug addiction. In a study conducted to evaluate the effects of CBD in fighting cue-induced anxiety and cravings (features of addiction that lead to continued drug use and relapse), participants were given between 400mg and 800mg of CBD for 3 days consecutively.
The participants were monitored closely within the three days and showed to have fewer cravings and anxiety commonly induced by salient drugs. Although additional research is needed to understand how CBD works in fighting addiction fully, it may serve as a basis for treating opioid use disorder.
Millions of people smoke cigarettes every day, with just over 8 million deaths related to tobacco use recorded each year. Several studies have shown CBD to help manage nicotine addiction. According to a clinical trial done on 24 participants, half of them were asked to use a CBD inhaler, and the other half were given a placebo-control inhaler to use whenever they had an urge to smoke.
The group using CBD-inhaler recorded a 40% decrease in tobacco consumption from the study, while those on the placebo increased their intake. Almost similar results have been replicated in several other clinical trials. We can thus say CBD can help reduce tobacco dependency among smokers from these findings. It is, however, worth noting that CBD shouldn’t be used as a substitute for official prescription medication.
Talk to your doctor if looking to use CBD alongside these medications.
5. Can Help Manage Chronic Cancer-Related Pains
Many studies have shown CBD to help manage most symptoms of cancer-related pains. A number of studies have also confirmed CBD helps stimulate appetite among cancer patients. With the loss of appetite and nausea, a common side effect of chemotherapy, CBD may come in handy in such situations. What also makes using certain vapes fantastic is that you can control the strength. D10 vapes hit hard whereas other models allow for a much softer hit. This allows you to adjust the intake to your needs and even your preferences.
Stimulating appetite makes it possible for patients to maintain good health and weight, making their recovery process more manageable.
Cancer and chemotherapy may cause increased pressure on internal organs, nerve damage, and inflammation, making it even more painful. There are also times when even the strongest opioids aren’t effective in managing the pain. CBD, however, fights the pain by reducing inflammation. It works by interacting indirectly with CB2 receptors, blocking some pain signals from reaching the brain.
