The National Portrait Gallery is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of an exclusive fine bone china collection in collaboration with acclaimed artist Tracey Emin.
Scheduled for release on 1st March, this collection serves as a tribute to the gallery’s ‘The Doors’ 2023 commission, symbolising ‘every woman, every age, and every culture throughout time’.
Introducing the Untitled, 2023 Collection
Titled “Untitled, 2023 by Tracey Emin,” this highly coveted range encompasses a series of exquisite pieces. Among them are two plates priced at £65 each. One plate features a single portrait at its centre, while the other showcases six selected portraits encircling the rim.
Additionally, the collection includes two mugs priced at £35 each (sold individually), with each mug adorned with three selected portraits. Completing the set is a milk jug priced at £35, featuring a single portrait.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, each piece undergoes screen printing in cobalt blue and black at Stoke-on-Trent. Moreover, they are elegantly presented in gift boxes embellished with the NPG monogram and Tracey Emin’s signature.
Tracey Emin’s Inspiration and Vision
Reflecting on the project that inspired this remarkable collection, Tracey Emin shares her profound insights.
She expresses, “Women in history are greatly underrepresented. I didn’t want to depict specific or identifiable figures. I felt like the doors of the National Portrait Gallery should represent every woman, every age, and every culture throughout time. I used myself as a mental template, but the end result is many different women, some that exist in my mind and some that perhaps exist in reality, here and now, as well as from the past. I want people to stand in front of the doors and say, ‘She looks like my mother, she looks like my best friend, my daughter.’”
Exclusive Limited Edition Prints
In addition to the fine bone china collection, the National Portrait Gallery will also offer an exclusive set of four Limited Edition prints by Tracey Emin.
These prints, launching in collaboration with CounterEditions.com, are limited to an edition of 100 each, with 25 reserved for portfolio editions including all prints. Measuring 68 x 80cm, each lithograph is meticulously hand-printed on Somerset Velvet Warm White 400gsm paper, produced by Counter Editions in Margate.
The collaboration between Tracey Emin and the National Portrait Gallery presents a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to own a piece of history. With its exquisite craftsmanship and profound conceptual underpinnings, the Untitled, 2023 collection celebrates the diverse narratives of women across time, inviting viewers to contemplate the rich tapestry of human experience and identity.
