David Harber, the esteemed British sculptor brand, unveils its latest masterpiece, the Messier sculpture.
Crafted in collaboration with US landscape designer Fernando Wong, this bespoke artwork made its debut at the Gala of the International Friends at Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte in October 2023, where it adorned the grand vestibule of the historic chateau.
Following its rousing reception, David Harber proudly adds the Messier to its distinguished portfolio of commissionable designs.
Harmony of Art and Nature: The Inspiration Behind Messier
The Messier sculpture draws inspiration from the illustrious 18th-century French astronomer Charles Messier, renowned for his discoveries of comets and nebulae.
Reflecting Messier’s fascination with celestial bodies, the sculpture evokes the imagery of a dandelion explosion, capturing the essence of nature’s sublime beauty. Lior Kristal, David Harber’s new design director, seamlessly integrates his expertise into this captivating creation, marking his debut with the brand.
At the heart of Messier’s design are five allium-inspired spheres of varying sizes and heights, meticulously crafted to embody the organic intricacies found in nature.
Each sphere features individually sculpted Chinese ginkgo petals, meticulously polished to a mirror-like finish, with the undersides adorned in a vibrant blue hue, enhancing depth and dimensionality. Illuminated, the sculpture emanates a mesmerising play of light, captivating viewers with its ethereal beauty.
Symbolism and Cultural Significance
Fernando Wong’s affinity for Asian traditions infuses the sculpture with profound symbolism, as evidenced by the incorporation of Chinese ginkgo leaves.
Revered for centuries as symbols of peace and hope, these leaves imbue Messier with a poignant message of tranquillity and resilience, making it a fitting centrepiece for any garden or outdoor space.
Describing the significance of Messier, Lior Kristal remarks, “The sculpture commands attention, drawing focus towards the heart of any environment. Its reflective surfaces interact with light, transforming surroundings and creating an immersive experience.” Emphasising the scale and impact of the artwork, Kristal adds, “We’ve magnified the delicate dandelion into a monumental, three-dimensional masterpiece, capable of elevating both indoor and outdoor spaces.”

Central to David Harber’s ethos is a commitment to durability and longevity. Each sculpture, including the Messier, is meticulously handcrafted to order, using only the finest materials sourced independently by the in-house design team.
