This captivating outdoor illuminated journey unfolds within Monteviot House’s spectacular gardens as dusk settles over the historic grounds. The adventure begins at Harestanes Visitor Centre, where you’ll traverse a 1.5km route through beautifully lit gardens and woods. Creative lighting breathes life into the natural world, accompanied by breathtaking soundscapes.
Pass through the enchanted doorway to encounter a symphony of twinkling lights, casting a mesmerizing glow. Each step reveals a new spectacle, inviting you to immerse yourself in the ethereal atmosphere. Follow the illuminated pathway that winds through the grounds, leading you to a captivating winter fairytale. While visiting, indulge in locally sourced food and drink, adding to the overall delight of the event.
A Seamless Blend of Nature and Artistry
The light trail seamlessly incorporates the garden’s natural surroundings and key features, creating immersive experiences. It’s produced by NL Productions, a company with over 50 years of experience in delivering large-scale events, including The Enchanted Forest in Pitlochry, Castle of Light at Edinburgh Castle, and Edinburgh Zoo’s Halloween Spooktacular and Christmas Nights.
The event’s primary focus is to attract 7,500 visitors in its inaugural year, with a long-term commitment to growth and sustainability, dedicated to preserving the natural environment beautifully illuminated by the event.

The family behind Monteviot Lights has been instrumental in its creation and enthusiastically invites visitors to share in the experience. Michael, 13th Marquis of Lothian, expresses his excitement about hosting the Scottish Borders’ first winter light trail.
