Londoner and Blow Dry-enthusiast Mia L Middleton checks out the new Duck & Dry Mayfair.
A new salon has hatched! Of course, I had to go and try it out. If you read my articles, you’ll know by now that my go-to hairstyle is a big bouncy blow dry.
The Mayfair store has the classic duck & dry design but with an additional feature – duck & pluck. This means you can get your eyebrows done and a blow dry whilst sipping cocktails. I was promised this store could have me in and out on my lunch break… honestly, both services only took an hour!
My hairstylist was Sophie, a duck & dry staff member for many years starting in the flagship store (Chelsea). I had my hair washed with the usual delicious scented shampoo/conditioner then taken over to my egg – with green tea waiting.
Whilst listening to the relaxing music, I’m asked what style I would like my blow dry, my answer is always ‘bigger the better’. I feel this store has more of a working professionals vibe than the oxford circus store which has a more clubby atmosphere.
Sophie and I had a chat about the store, the services they offer and the fun that the staff get up to. I am assured she will finish in 30 minutes, this is from wet hair fully blown out with brushes then pinned up. I am shocked when we are finished in under 30 minutes – if you have read my other articles you’ll know people usually take hours to blow dry my hair!
I’m moved over to duck & pluck, with brow artist Santana, I have my brows tinted & threaded. I asked Sophie to keep my pin curls in to maximize my volume (always keep your pins in as long as possible for hold). I’m given a brow massage after my treatment, which even just writing about it now makes me feel relaxed. After this, my hair is shaken out, sprayed and is photo-ready.
Everyone in the store is so chatty and friendly, as always, this is definitely the place to go before a night out with friends, have some drinks and let someone else get you ready for a change. They offer group bookings and bottles of Prosecco. With stores now all over London, they have you covered wherever you are.
