The idea of an outdoor fashion show has always had a magical element to it, and in my personal view is the best way to view the pieces as this is how the would be seen, but it seldom goes without a hitch. Just a short while ago the Rodarte show at New York Fashion Week saw us all sitting in the rain. That being said the Missoni Spring Summer 2019 collection, shown outdoor, was a roaring success. The setting was beautiful and the weather was… well, like that of a ‘Visit Italy this summer’ promo video, simply heaven.
Sitting at café tables with Michael Nyman playing piano in the background, the showcase truly embodied la dolce vita. A warm evening filled with exquisite pieces of effortless fashion, that Missoni has become known for. The evening also saw the 65th anniversary of the independent fashion label, founded by Tai and Rosita Missoni. Although it was a major milestone for the brand, in true Missoni fashion, it was not a retrospective but was a reminder that the historic brand was not only in the now but is very much a part of the future of fashion. The Missoni Spring Summer 2019 collection saw beautiful knitwear as well as an abundance of their signature patchwork techniques and famous zigzag patterns. The muted tones was a breath of fresh air and remind us that subtle elegance can sometimes speak louder than neon and print.
