The Ralph Lauren Fall Winter 2019 collection has been one of the most anticipated collections of the season, and it did not disappoint! The American King of chic once again transported us to another world of elegance and refinement.
As with the Ralph Lauren Spring Summer 2019 collection, the designer created a real-world environment in which to show off his pieces. After all, that is where they will be seen and worn. It gives the client an idea of what they would look like strutting the streets in these pieces.
For this season’s presentation, the designer transformed a Wall Street bank into a chic member’s club called Ralph’s Club. The beautiful art deco decor together with the jazz band made you feel as if Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall would be seen walking around the corner at any moment. As with most member’s clubs, at least those worth joining, there was a dress code. The designer asked that all guests wear black-and-white eveningwear which just underlined the sophisticated look even further with guests forming part of the decor as much as attending.
Then there was the collection. The Ralph Lauren Fall Winter 2019 collection is a blend between tailored sophistication and feminine flirtation. Over the decades Ralph Lauren has mastered the art of blurring gender-lines when it comes to clothing without losing the art of femininity. With this collection, however, he has pushed the boundaries even further. Perhaps most noticeably so was the yellow evening dress. With a soft and flirty base, the dress moved gracefully and elegantly as the model moved, the top, on the other hand, is a reimagination of a formal-dress men’s one-button-waistcoat.
Other than contrasting traditional gender-styles, the collection also plays with contrasting elements. By blending together shimmering fabrics with mat, light and moving silhouettes with structured tailoring, the Ralph Lauren Fall Winter 2019 collection is an elegant line that celebrates what it means to be woman, in all its various forms.
