Despite the fact that Valentino is one of the most well-known and followed design houses in the world, with each season they surprise and delight with fresh, new and innovative looks and designs. Following Maria Grazia Chiuri’s departure to Dior, the current creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, appointed in 2016, has been introduced a batch of fresh ideas to the brand with the Valentino Spring Summer 2019 collection presented at Paris Fashion Week being no different.
The show started with a plethora of all black cotton pieces. The void of pattern or contrasting colour made the eye focus on the structure, silhouettes and construction of each piece. This stripped back version of complex silhouettes made the Valentino Spring Summer 2019 collection truly unique and explored the neglected theme. The collection then saw more stripped back pieces with a wonderful array of print, another trend that has been spotted throughout various fashion weeks as well as large sleeves, round backs and casual pieces. The ‘stripped-back couture’ as seen in the Valentino Spring Summer 2019 show introduces again the theme of ‘daily couture’ that can be worn… well, every day!
